Youngstown man who was shot Sept. 30 dies

YOUNGSTOWN

The man whose shooting prompted a school lockdown in Youngstown last month has died.

The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, reported Thursday that Lenzie Morgan died in a local hospital Wednesday.

Police said Paul Kerr is accused of shooting Morgan in the head during a family dispute on Shady Run Road on Sept. 30.

Summit Academy Secondary School was placed on a perimeter lockdown at the request of the Youngstown Police Department that day while they investigated the shooting.

The TV station said Kerr, 48, of Louisville, Ohio, was arrested in New Castle and remains in the Lawrence County Jail awaiting extradition to Youngstown.

Pumpkin Walk set

YOUNGSTOWN

Mill Creek MetroParks and Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens will host a Pumpkin Walk from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave.

More than 500 pumpkins carved into jack-o’-lanterns will line the paths of the gardens. The event also will feature live entertainment and children’s activities.

The event is free and open to the public.

Pumpkin carving for the event, also open to the public, will take place today and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the service building.

Warren Ghost Walk

The 2014 Ghost Walk will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday starting at First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. NW.

Guided tours leave every 10 minutes from the church parking lot. Ghost Walk is a 1-mile historic walking tour that features stops where actors portray people who once lived in Trumbull County.

Tickets cost $12 at the door for adults, $5 for children 12 and under.

Registration for Christmas assistance

YOUNGSTOWN

Fall registration for Christmas toy and food voucher assistance will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the Salvation Army’s Mahoning County Area Services, 1501 Glenwood Ave.

All families that register will be eligible for Christmas toys for children up to 12 years old and food vouchers.

To register, participants must bring a valid photo ID for all adults; Social Security cards for every person in the household; birth certificates for children or a printout from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services; proof of income for the past 30 days (bring all that apply) including pay stubs, ODJFS printout, child support, SSI/SSD, workers’ compensation and rent subsidy/utility allowance; and one bill that a household individual pays.
