CANFIELD

Canfield schools are seeking bids for a new public- address system in Canfield High School.

Superintendent Alex Geordan received the board of education’s permission Wednesday to bid the project.

“We have been in need of that PA system for a long time, and part of our safety and security upgrades that we wanted to do,” he said.

The project cost is not known, but Geordan said an architect has told him it could be between $80,000 and $100,000. The district would use permanent improvement funds to pay for it.

Geordan detailed that this would bring in a new bell system and PA boxes for the high school. Loud rooms, such as the gym and band room, would feature a strobe light to let the teacher and students know an announcement was on the way.

The project would take at least a week, Geordan said, and the district will work with a contractor who can work in the afternoons and early evenings so as not to disrupt the class schedule. “We’re hoping that [the project] can be complete and finished before the first of the year.”
