The Canfield Village Middle School seventh-grade squad traveled to West Branch on Oct. 1 and routed the Warriors 46-6. Quarterback Santino Marucci tossed three touchdown passes and three 2-point conversions to lead the Cardinals. Nick Crawford found the end zone three times as Canfield improved to 4-0 on the season.

Canfield opened the scoring when Marucci hit Crawford in the right flat and Crawford took over from there rumbling 42-yards to paydirt. Marucci hit Anthony D’Alesio with the conversion for a 8-0 lead. Marucci and Crawford hooked up again on the Cardinal’s next possession from 38-yards to make it 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Canfield added to their lead early in the second when Crawford dashed 55-yards for six. Marucci hit D’Alesio with the conversion again for a 22-0 Cardinal lead. D’Alesio broke several tackles on his way to a 43-yard touchdown jaunt and Jeffery Shaughnessy added the conversion to give Canfield a 30-0 halftime margin.

Marucci struck again on the first series of the second half when he hit split end Brent Herrman with 6-yard scoring strike. Crawford hauled in a Marucci pass for the conversion and a 38-0 advantage. Following a Cameron Malinky pick, D’Alesio sprinted 55 yards to paydirt and Jake Kowal tacked on the conversion run for Canfield’s final score.

Marucci finished 11 of 14 through the air for 162-yards and three scores. D’Alesio led all rushers with 157-yards on 10 carries. Crawford’s three touchdowns give him 13 after four games. Defensively Marucci, Malinky and Alec Honthy had interceptions while Michael Gonda and Richie Hofus were standouts on the defensive line. Coach Donadee cited the stellar play of Angelo Cestone, Seth Hull, Gavin Tareshawty and Peyton Kostelic on the offensive line.
