Boys soccer defeated
The Canfield boys soccer team recently lost to Orange with scores of 3-1 at Pepper Pike. The goal for Canfield was scored by Frank Phillips from Ben Feuer and Canfield attempted 10 shots on the goal. Canfield goalie Jeff Joseph made 11 saves. The junior varsity match led to a 1-1 tie.
Canfield volleyball defeats Fitch
The Canfield volleyball team recently defeated Austintown Fitch at Canfield 3-0 with scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-6. This match was senior night and the last game of regular season. Top players for Austintown included Krista Kollat (12 points), Darby Hepola (eight kills, five blocks), Janie Rafoth (34 assists), Rachel Rafoth (21 digs) and Maddy Johns (13 kills).
Canfield tennis players victorious
The Canfield doubles team of Hannah Cianciola (sophomore) and Ashley Kaleel (junior) have qualified for the OHSAA DI state tennis Tournament. They won both of their doubles tennis matches on Oct. 9 in the opening rounds of the district tournament at Oberlin College. They defeated teams from Magnificat and Hudson.

The Canfield volleyball team recently took on Howland at Canfield and came away with 3-0 victory (25-6, 25-12, 25-6). Top players for Canfield included Emma Hartshorn (22 points, five aces), Darby Hepola (11 kills, six blocks), Morgan Cleevely (nine kills) and Krista Kollat (three kills)
New basketball tournament announced
The first Canfield Cardinals fifth- and sixth-grade boys basketball tournament will take place on Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at Canfield Village Middle School. This tournament is limited to 16 teams in each grade level and the cost is $125 with a four game guarantee. Canfield basketball youth skills academy
The Canfield High School boys’ basketball program will be hosting its fifth annual Cardinals’ Basketball Youth Skills Academy in preparation for the 2014-15 basketball season. All current fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys are eligible participants. The first night of the academy will be on Nov. 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Canfield Village Middle School. The cost will be $30 per participant and can be paid on the first evening of the academy.
Neighbors wants fall sports news
It’s fall sports season. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a summer sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
You can email us at neighbors@vindy.com. You don’t have to be a writer — just send us the information and we’ll put it all together. When emailing pictures, send them as JPEG files as large as possible. Provide caption information and where people are located from left to right, front row to back. The sports news we’re looking for ranges from varsity high school teams down to middle school and even elementary and recreational leagues.
