Canfield High School earns national recognition

Neighbors | Submitted.The National Speech and Debate Association, the honor society for middle and high school speech and debate, has named its top 100 schools in the nation for the 2013-2014 school year. Canfield High School is ranked 47 out of more than 3,000 schools nationwide.

The National Speech and Debate Association, the honor society for middle and high school speech and debate, has named its top 100 schools in the nation for the 2013-2014 school year. Canfield High School is ranked 47 out of more than 3,000 schools nationwide.

Members earn points and degrees through the honor society, based on competitive and service-related activities, ranging from the Degree of Merit with 25 or more points to the Degree of Premier Distinction with 1,500 or more points.

The Canfield High School Chapter achieved 300 or more degrees last year, thus ranking it among to top 1 percent of schools nationwide and earned membership in the Association’s prestigious Societe’ de 300. This milestone demonstrates outstanding commitment to teaching students essential life skills – including communication, research, listening, writing and organization.

“These students and coaches have demonstrated outstanding participation and achievement in speech and debate activities,” said Executive Director Scott J Wunn. “We are pleased to honor them for their hard work and dedication, and wish them continued success in the coming season.”

Recipient schools are published in “Rostrum,” the national magazine of high school speech and debate.
