The Ankle & Foot Care Centers hosted its 16th annual golf tournament on Aug. 22 at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Hubbard, which raised more than $19,000 that was given to the American Diabetes Association [$2,500] with $16,000 being presented to the Diabetes Partnership of Mahoning Valley on Sept. 30.

More than 130 golfers paid $100 each for the entry fee, with more money being raised through a raffle and a 50/50 drawing.

The entry fee included a round of golf, a cart, lunch, dinner and refreshments.

“It felt really good to be able to give over $16,000 to the Diabetes Partnership of the Mahoning Valley because it will definitely be used for those diabetics that are in the Valley rather than the money being used on a more national level,” said Ankle & Foot Care Centers partner Dr. Michelle Anania, who also organized the tournament.

“We’d like to thank Michelle and her colleagues at Ankle & Foot Care Centers for this generous donation and their continued support of our organization,” Diabetes Partnership of the Mahoning Valley president Edward Hassay said. “With their help, we can educate and encourage local families who deal with diabetes on a daily basis.”

The Ankle & Foot Care Centers have been in existence for 20 years.

There are 19 locations throughout Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Stark counties as well as in Andover and in Greenville, Pa.

The golf tournament has raised more than $125,000 for diabetes education and research since its inception.
