Television series released on DVD this week include:
v “From Dusk Till Dawn”: Don’t have El Rey channel? See its flagship series on disc. Founder-filmmaker Robert Rodriguez’s signature visionary violence fills his movie spinoff. On-the-run bank robbers blaze into a Mexican-border strip club teeming with bloodsuckers. Need we say these 10 episodes are intended for adult viewers? Extras include making-ofs, commentary, panel Q&A, “best kills,” lots more; $40 DVD/$50 Blu-ray, from Miramax/eOne.
v “Penny Dreadful”: Showtime gorgeously reboots 19th-century horror icons for adults, with Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Billie Piper, plus extras on literary roots, gothic presentation, Victorian science, more; $45 DVD/$55 Blu-ray, CBS.
v “Fargo”: Inspired by the Coen brothers’ 1996 film: Billy Bob Thornton vs. snow-country locals in closed-end season with Martin Freeman, Bob Odenkirk; $40 DVD/$50 Blu, Fox.
v “American Horror Story: Coven”: New Orleans-set saga with Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett; $50 DVD/$60 Blu, Fox.
v “My Little Pony” (complete series): Original ’80s cartoon has 65 episodes with different look, darker edge than Hub’s current “Friendship Is Magic”; $30 for 4 discs, Shout.
“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (8:30 P.M., ABC): Time for the annual airing of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” Will this be the year that poor Linus gets rewarded for his patient pumpkin-patch vigil? Don’t count on it.
“Nature” (8 p.m., PBS): Season 33 kicks off with “Animal Misfits,” including an ant-sized chameleon and a big-headed mole rat, the only two critters that haven’t been a secret ingredient on “Top Chef” or a challenge snack on “Fear Factor.”
“How We Got to Now with Steve Johnson” (9 p.m., PBS): New series looks at the origins of modern conveniences.
