2 men arraigned today on charges involving shooting at Hubbard cop

GIRARD — Two men arrested after one of them fired shots at a Hubbard city police officer Tuesday were arraigned this morning in Girard Municipal Court.

Jeffrey Irby, 26, of Fort Wayne, Ind., remains in the Trumbull County Jail on $2.5 million bond plus house arrest should he be able to post it.

Irby was a passenger in a car police pulled over about 11:45 a.m. on West Liberty Street at the Circle K across from the municipal building. He fled. An officer chased him, and police accuse Irby of firing between three and seven shots at the officer. Irby is charged with felonious assault and improper handling of a firearm.

Jason Duecaster, 30, of Steel Street in Youngstown, remains in jail on $250,000 bond. He is charged with felonious assault, improper handling of a firearm and driving under suspension. Police Chief Jim Taafe said Duecaster stayed with the car while Irby fled.
