A longtime township business is taking advantage of a 49-percent, 10-year tax abatement to build a bigger building across the street from its current Trumbull Avenue location.

CR Electric is building a 10,500-square-foot building at 1200 Trumbull. DeSalvo Construction, of Liberty, is the contractor for the $500,000 project.

Company owner Jason Rubin, who also is a township trustee, said he wants to have the building finished by December.

Rubin owns the building the company is in now, he said, but says he needs more room.

He will keep the old building and rent it, he said.

CR Electric handles “anything residential, commercial, or industrial,” Rubin said.

Rubin, who was born and reared in Liberty Township, said he started his business at his house in 1998 when he was 28 years old. His children were 1, 2 and 3 years old when he left his old job to do it.

It has grown to 38 employees, and he has been at his current location for 10 years.

“Because my employees are so great ... they do a great job, that’s why CR is so successful,” he said.

Rubin said he believes tax abatements, which give businesses a break on property taxes, help draw business development to the township.
