AUSTINTOWN

Township trustees approved a liquor license as well as additional budget appropriations at their meeting.

Trustees unanimously approved an additional permit for the liquor license for 76 Hospitality, doing business as The Back Room at 76, 5335 Seventy-Six Drive Unit 2. That permit allows the bar to extend its time for on-site consumption from 1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Trustees had unanimously approved its previous liquor licenses at its Sept. 22 meeting.

While that vote was taking place Monday night, Dave Robich and John Batcho, both involved with the Sebastian Rucci-owned Hotel California venture, 1051 N. Canfield-Niles Road, were in attendance, but did not participate during the public-comment section.

The township and Mahoning County had filed objections to Hotel California’s liquor license, and a hearing before the Ohio Department of Liquor Control is scheduled for November.

Trustees also approved a transfer of $55,000 from the general fund to the park fund. Laurie Wolfe, township fiscal officer, explained the transfer was needed before reimbursements and endowments would come in for the parks department, specifically for operation of the dog park on Kirk Road.

Trustees agreed to move their meeting from Nov. 24, when live racing is set to begin at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, back a day to noon Nov. 25 at Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Drive.

Administrator Michael Dockry updated officials on the rock-salt situation. He said though the township requested 3,000 tons through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s group-purchasing program at $105.25 a ton, he has yet to hear if Austintown’s full order will be taken.

“I would at least be expecting sometime in the future for them [ODOT] to tell us whether or not they can handle our request or how much they will be able to give us this winter,” Dockry said.
