WILLOUGHBY, Ohio

The Federal Aviation Administration has approved the transfer of a small Northeast Ohio airport from the suburban Cleveland city where it’s located to a county port authority.

The (Willoughby) News-Herald reports that the city of Willoughby has been trying to get Lake County authorities to take control of Lost Nation Airport since 2006. The newly formed Lake County Port and Economic Development Authority began studying the transfer after its creation in 2007. Lost Nation is 20 miles east of downtown Cleveland.

There had been discussion about the airport closing, but the port authority agreed to the transfer after conducting a lengthy review and public hearings.
