GIRLS TENNIS

Hannah Cianciola and Ashley Kaleel finished off an impressive run at the Division I girls district tennis tournament by winning their final two matches to advance as district champions. The Canfield doubles team defeated Walsh Jesuit 6-2, 6-2 and Hoover 6-3, 6-3 to earn the top seed heading into next week’s state tournament.

In Division II, Elise Eckman lost in the fifth-place match and will miss out on the state tournament by one spot. Only the top five from each district qualify. Warren JFK’s Maria Stroup and Ellie Cole lost both matches on Saturday.

FOOTBALL

Hamilton Ross 40, Niles 21

NILES

John Kincaid ran for 129 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries and the Rams built a 33-7 halftime lead in a non-conference victory at Bo Rein Stadium. Alex Steele also ran for a touchdown and caught a scoring pass for Ross (4-3). Ross clinched the game when Dustin Foley returned an interception 103 yards for a touchdown with 2:16 to play. The Red Dragons (1-6, 0-2 All-American Conference American Division) got two touchdown runs from Corey Hayes and another from Tyler Srbinovich, who ran 33 times for 86 yards. Niles hosts AAC American rival Poland on Friday in a Week 8 matchup.

Mineral Ridge 24, Sebring 7

SEBRING

Nick Ferguson ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns for Ridge (2-5, 1-3 Inter Tri-County League Tier Two), which outscored Sebring 10-0 in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Michael McLean added 151 yards rushing and a TD as the Rams rolled up 334 yards on the ground. Nick Rine ran for a touchdown for Sebring (4-3, 1-3) and Nate Martin had 51 yards on the ground.

VOLLEYBALL

Springfield 25-25-25, East Palestine 19-11-16

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Callie Ford scored 13 points to lead the Tigers (12-8, 9-5 Inter Tri-County League Tier One). Quinn Crowe made 13 kills and five blocks, Courtyen Cyrus made nine blocks and Brooke Bullen scored 12 points with three aces. JV: Springfield, 25-15, 27-25.

COLUMBIANA

Kristin Osborn had 32 skills and 10 digs and Ginny Burgess collected six points, two aces, five kills, 34 assists, 11 digs and a block for the Lions (17-5). Bonnie Flynn added eight points, 20 digs and seven kills as Heartland Christian completed its regular season. The Clippers will meet Southern Local in the Division IV tournament on Thursday at Columbiana High School. Kimmie Wiggers led Lisbon with 11 kills, eight digs, two aces and a block, while Karlee Pezzano had 25 assists, nine digs, two kills and an ace and Hannah Hiscox had eight digs and seven kills.

Hubbard 25-25, Massillon Perry 9-20

CANAL FULTON

Macey Sarisky had nine kills and 10 points, Emily Krinos had 17 assists, Kiana Martinez had 11 digs and Alivia Sandberg had nine points and four kills for Hubbard in a triangular at Northwest High School.

Hubbard 25-25, Northwest 21-23

Caitlin O’Hara had 10 kills and eight blocks, Krinos had 20 assists and Sarisky had five kills and 12 digs.

Cardinal Mooney 25-25, Springfield 12-16

COLUMBIANA

Gina Patella had 22 assists, Autumn DeSantis had eight kills and Lauren Lottier had 15 digs for Mooney. Callie Ford had four kills, two points and 13 passes for Springfield, while Caitlyn Cyrus had a kill and two blocks and Quinn Crowe had two kills.

Mooney 25-25, Columbiana 15-23

COLUMBIANA

Gina Patella had 26 assists, Nichole Webber had 11 kills and McKenzie Reese added seven kills for Mooney (20-2). Shayla Ray had eight kills, Emily Witmer had seven kills and Taylor Sims had 14 digs for Columbiana (12-9).

Columbiana 27-15-25, Springfield 25-25-19

Shayla Ray had 18 kills, Lauren Schlueter had 25 assists and Hannah Hun had 11 digs for Columbiana. Callie Ford had 13 kills, Quin Crowe added nine kills and Kasey Kohler had eight kills for Springfield.

Cardinal Mooney 3, Laurel Academy 0

STRUTHERS

Julie Vazquez had two goals and one assist while Lexy Herman also scored for Mooney. Samantha Ellis had five saves as the Cardinals recorded their eighth shutout.

BELOIT

Anna Saxton scored, Alexis Downie had an assist and Kristin Huck had 10 saves for Boardman (6-8-2). Bailey Polinori scored for West Branch. JV: Boardman, 2-0.

BOYS SOCCER

Fitch 1, South Range 1

AUSTINTOWN

The Falcons’ Drake Sahli and the Raiders’ Brooks Thomas scored the only goals as Fitch and South Range played to a draw. Cole Durina assisted on Thomas’ goal. Raiders goalie Brant Rothbauer had six saves. Fitch’s Hunter Klaus had one save.

Heartland Christian 10, Mathews 3

COLUMBIANA

Titus Joachim scored three goals and had two assists, Nathan Sommers had two goals and two assists and Seth Ogden had two goals and an assist for the Lions (6-6-2). Alden Pest, Phil Bell and Josh Long each added a goal for Heartland Christian. Ben Burgess had three saves for the Lions.

Orange 3, Canfield 1

PEPPER PIKE

Nick Abrsksia, Sam Chaikin and Jake Slesh scored goals for Orange in a victory over Canfield (8-5-3). The Cardinals’ lone goal was scored by Frank Phillips, on an assist from Ben Feuer. Canfield goalie Jeff Joseph jad 11 saves. Orange’s Scott Mosher had seven. JV: 1-1 tie.

Campbell 4, Leetonia 1

LEETONIA

Javier Trancoso, Nico Bednarik, Chivan Martinez and Ryan Luciano scored goals as the Red Devils (6-5) beat the Bears. Douglas Rhodes had Leetonia’s only goal. Campbell goalie Raymond Rue had eight saves.
