Massachusetts 40, Kent State 17

Blake Frohnapfel threw three touchdown passes and Lorenzo Woodley ran for 160 yards and a score to help UMass end the longest active losing streak in the FBS at 12 games. Kent State (0-6, 0-3 Mid-American) used a 43-yard touchdown run by Anthony Meray to take a 10-7 lead in the opening minute of the second quarter, but UMass (1-6, 1-2) scored 17-straight points to close out the half. After a 22-yard field goal by Logan Laurent gave UMass a 10-point lead going into the fourth, Kassan Messiah blocked a Kent State field goal attempt.
Akron 29, Miami (Ohio) 19
AKRON
Jawon Chisholm rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns for Akron. Chisholm scored a pair of 10-yard touchdowns for the Zips (4-2, 2-0), the first making it 12-0 early in the second quarter, the second with 5 minutes remaining to secure the win. The yardage was more than double his season best of 45. Andrew Hendrix threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns for the Red Hawks (1-6, 1-2). David Frazier had nine catches for 132 yards and two scores. Hendrix hit Frazier for 18 yards to cut the Akron lead to 12-6 at 8:42 of the second quarter. Hendrix connected with Rokeem Williams 23 seconds before halftime to make it 15-13.
Bowling Green 31, Ohio 13
ATHENS
James Knapke threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns for Bowling Green. On the Falcons’ opening drive, Knapke pumped right before dumping it to Travis Greene. Greene ran to the left sideline, broke a tackle and spun out of another for a 23-yard score. Andre Givens ran for a 2-yard touchdown, and Knapke found Ryan Burbrink with an 8-yard TD strike to give Bowling Green a 21-6 halftime lead. Greene cut left and ran untouched for a 30-yard touchdown to stretch the Falcons’ (5-2, 3-0) lead to 28-6 late in the third quarter.
Eastern Michigan 37, Buffalo 27
YPSILANTI, MICH.
Reginald Bell Jr. ran for three touchdowns and threw for one more to lead Eastern Michigan. Buffalo took an early 10-3 lead before Bell faked a dive on second-down, cut right then ran up the middle untouched for a 71-yard touchdown to pull the Eagles (2-4, 1-1) within one, 10-9. Buffalo added a field goal before the Eagles scored 21-unanswered points. Ryan Brumfield bullied in from the 1, and then Bell ran for a 10-yard score and connected with David Gibson for a 23-yard TD strike. Joe Licata threw a 50-yard touchdown pass for Buffalo to make it 30-21.
Western Michigan 42, Ball State 38
MUNCIE, IND.
Zach Terrell threw for three touchdowns, Jarvion Franklin ran for three more and the defense made a late goal-line stand. Franklin led Western Michigan’s surge with TD runs of 2 and 4 yards in the third quarter and a 54-yard scoring run in the fourth to make it a three-point game. Terrell hit Daniel Braverman on a 12-yard TD pass for the go-ahead score with 1:25 to play. Ball State (1-5, 0-2) had a chance to win but turned the ball over downs on the Western Michigan 8. Franklin gained 161 yards on 24 carries for the Broncos (3-3, 1-1) and Terrell was 20 of 29 for 290 yards passing and an interception.
Iowa State 37, Toledo 30
AMES, IOWA
Sam Richardson threw for a career-high 351 yards and three second-half touchdowns Saturday, rallying Iowa State to a victory over Toledo. Unable to finish drives in the first half, Richardson and the offense got rolling in the second and gave the Cyclones (2-4) a much needed victory in a rare October break from Big 12 play. Toledo (4-2), which had a three-game winning streak broken, ran the ball well and pulled into a 23-23 tie in the fourth quarter. But the Cyclones took the lead on Richardson’s 5-yard TD pass to E.J. Bibbs and secured the victory with a 16-play, 85-yard drive that Richardson finished with a 14-yard scoring pass to Alan Lazard, making it 37-23.
Central Michigan 34, N. Illinois 17
DEKALB, ILL.
Thomas Rawls carried the load for the second straight game, scoring a pair of first-quarter touchdowns to spark Central Michigan. Drew Hare tossed the first of his two touchdown passes to Juwan Brescacin a minute and a half into the game to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead, but Rawls capped a 10-play, 86-yard drive by punching in from the 5 to even the score on the Chippewas’ first possession. Rawls finished with 40 carries for the second straight week, gaining 270 yards, giving him 499 yards and four touchdowns in his past two games. Cooper Rush was 20 of 31 for 269 yards and two touchdowns for Central Michigan (4-3, 2-1 MAC).
