1989: Thomas Cusack, 95, of Salem is sworn in by Common Pleas Judge Douglas Jenkins for his fourth term as a member of the Columbiana County Soldiers Relief Commission.

In what Adelaide Mullane, president of the Warren Board of Education, described as a humiliating and sobering experience, Warren wins approval for a $4 million state-backed loan after presenting the local board’s plan for cutbacks to the state controlling board in Columbus.

William Kish, attorney for the Canfield Fair Board of Directors, says directors are going to have to be more attentive to potential lawsuits. The board is facing three suits, including one filed by a person stabbed during the 1987 fair.
