50th anniversary

The Franciscan Friars will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Shrine of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., with Mass at 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the shrine.

Rabbi Benjamin Blech, professor of the Talmud at Yeshiva University in New York, will speak on “The Sistine Chapel: The Hidden Jewish Messages of Michelangelo” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 2067 Evergreen Road.
The program is sponsored by the Rev. George Balasko for the 80th anniversary of his baptism.
