Documentary on education system

Documentary on education system

YOUNGSTOWN

“Rise Above the Mark,” a documentary film about the nation’s education system, will be screened for free at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.

The film focuses on the stresses placed on our education system by overuse of testing and the effect of politics on the classroom. According to this film, rules and regulations restrict vision, depreciate funding, demoralize teachers and turn students into test-taking machines, robbing them of time to foster creativity.

The film is made possible by the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and the generosity of the Youngstown Rotary Club.
