Lady Spartans defeat Hubbard

The Boardman High School Lady Spartans defeated Hubbard High School 5-0 at Hubbard on Oct. 6. Scoring for Boardman were senior Alison Green (three goals and two assists), senior Alexis Downie (one goal and one assist) and sophomore Alisa Earvin (one goal). Other assists were given by sophomore Lexi Caraballo and freshman Camille Holzchuh. Senior Kristen Huck had five saves. Boardman’s Overall record is 6-8-1 and their conference record is 1-6-1.

BGMS volleyball has victory against Warren

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team defeated Warren 25-16 and 25-11 to improve their season record to 9-5. Julia Yauger played a strong game at the net defensively while Maddy Trell served nine points. The BGMS eighth-grade team also beat Warren 25-11 and 25-9 to improve their season record to 7-7. Kara Boerio served 11 points while Cate Green served 12 points.

BHS volleyball defeats Lakeview

The Boardman Spartans volleyball team improved to 12-5 on the year on Sept. 25 by defeating Lakeview. Aftter losing to Lakeview earlier in the year, the Spartans defended their home court and defeated the Bulldogs in five games (25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 13-25, 15-9). Amanda Lipke, who ended with nine kills and four blocks, took the team on her shoulders and owned to net for the Spartans in the fifth game. Hope Landers and Krista Johnson both had 14 kills, while Katie Platt had 38 assists.

BHS volleyball loses to Hubbard

The Boardman Spartans Volleyball team dropped to 12-6 on the year on Oct. 2 after losing to a very strong and experienced Hubbard team with scores of 25-22, 18-25, 15-25 and 15-25. The Spartans offense was led by Krista Johnson with 14 kills and 12 points. Katie Platt contributed to the valiant effort by adding 29 assists, while her sister, Courtney, led the defense with 23 digs.

MVCA basketball coaches’ meeting

The Mahoning Valley Coaches’ Executive Committee will be hosting a preseason meeting for all girls and boys basketball coaches that are part of MVCA. The meeting will take place on Oct. 16 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at Canfield High School. Many important topics related to Association will be discussed at this meeting. BGMS volleyball defeated by Lakeview

Boardman Glenwood Middle School’s seventh-grade volleyball team lost to Lakeview 6-25 and 11-25 to make them 8-5 on the season. Kennedy Page served four points. The BGMS eighth-grade team lost a close match to Lakeview 18-25 and 22-25 to make their season record 6-7. Hannah Nawrocki served tough to help compete with Lakeview while Brigita Ositis had several assists for the hitters.

BGMS volleyball topples Center

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School volleyball team defeated Center 25-22 and 25-9 to improve their season record to 8-4 on Sept. 29. Hope Burford served 13 points and Emma Ericson served 12 points. The BGMS eighth-grade volleyball team also beat Center 25-9 and 25-10 to improve their season record to 6-6. Brooke Hoffman and Cate Green served 11 points each.

BCMS has mixed results Oct. 1

The Boardman Center Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team split their two matches on Oct. 1. In the first match, they beat Campbell Memorial with scores of 25-11 and 25-13. Marissa Melewski led the scoring with five points serving and Katie Dimetrias served four points in the first game. Keimanni Boyd served six points and Tanna Ortega served four points in the second game. It was a great effort from the entire team playing defense. In the second match, BCMS seventh-grade team lost a hard fought three game match to Girard with scores of 15-25, 25-21 and 20-25. Marissa Malewski led the scoring with six points serving, while Keimanni Boyd served four points for the match. Lilly Essad and Josephine Madunicky played great defense and Allyssa Blangero played great in the middle front position.

Boys soccer defeated

The Boardman boys soccer team was defeated by Canfield 3-1 on Sept. 30. The Boardman goal was scored by Zachary Smelter from Zachary Stamp. Boardman attempted seven shots on the goal and Boardman goalie Kevin Durbin made 17 saves. The junior varsity team lost to Canfield 5-0.

Girls volleyball defeats Perry

The Boardman Spartans Varsity Volleyball Team improved to 11-5 on the year by defeating the Perry Panthers from the Federal League with scores of 21-25, 25-12, 25-15 and 25-18 on Sept. 27. The senior combination of Hope Landers and Amanda Lipke led the offensive attack with 18 and 10 kills, respectively. Katie Platt contributed to many of the team kills by adding 43 assists, while her twin sister, Courtney, ran the show on defense with 25 digs.

It’s fall sports season. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a summer sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
