Powell arraigned

WARREN

Heidi Powell, 33, of Niles, the former Niles income tax investigator indicted on one felony count of theft in office and accused of taking $731 from her job, was arraigned Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Judge W. Watt McKay allowed her to remain free on bond but under one additional condition: She can’t work with cash.

Powell resigned from the Niles job late last month, apologizing to Niles Mayor Ralph Infante for her “stupid and selfish actions” and the embarrassment she has caused Infante and “the entire city.”

Infante said he is about to implement new personnel practices in the city to avoid similar thefts in the future.
