Stanley Cup coming to Youngstown Dec. 19

Here's a release just announced from the Youngstown Phantoms:

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – Phantoms co-owner Troy Loney has announced that the Stanley Cup will be in attendance for the December 19th game against Team USA’s Under-18 squad. The game will the Phantoms’ annual “Pittsburgh Penguins Night”, presented by UPMC.

“I am extremely excited that the NHL and the Phantoms are able to bring the Stanley Cup to the Covelli Centre for our fans and the community to enjoy,” said the ex-Penguin, Loney.

Fans will have an opportunity to see the Stanley Cup and take photos with it, and there will also be a special time and area for season ticket holders to see and have their pictures taken with hockey’s top prize.

The Cup will be just one of the many special events and guests lined up for Penguins Night. A number of former Penguins players are expected to attend and there will be Penguins themed contests, prizes, and giveaways all night long. This will also be the final game before the Holiday break, and the last chance to see the Phantoms skate at the Covelli Centre until Friday, January 9th, 2015.

“It will definitely be a celebration atmosphere for our fans, players and the entire city,” said Loney. “I'm looking forward to seeing the Stanley Cup as I haven't been close to it since we won it with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 91-92, and I look forward to reliving some great memories.”

The Stanley Cup is awarded annually to the champions of the National Hockey League (NHL), and has been lifted by former Phantom Brandon Saad, who won it with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013.
