OSHA probing after 2 rescued from trench collapse in Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. (AP) — Federal workplace safety officials were investigating after two men were rescued when a trench collapsed while they were digging a sewer in western Pennsylvania.

Mercer County officials haven’t released the names of the men who were in the trench Wednesday afternoon in a residential yard in Grove City.

County special operations chief Bill Finley says one worker was trapped below the knee and quickly dug out by co-workers. But the other man was buried up to his neck before workers dug out around his chest so he could breathe. He was freed the rest of the way by emergency crews then flown to a Pittsburgh hospital.

The condition of the workers wasn’t immediately available. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating.
