Fire Safety Day is Saturday in Boardman

BOARDMAN — Township fire Chief Mark Pitzer, firefighters and other officials will host a Fire Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the main fire station, 136 Boardman-Poland Road.

Children and parents are invited to learn about fire safety while getting a close-up look at fire trucks and related equipment.

There will be a live-burn demonstration at 12:15 p.m. in a free-standing “burn building” structure, designed to show guests how rapidly a fire can spread once ignited. Firefighters will also demonstrate at both 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. the latest equipment used to extract motorists trapped in cars.

There will also be fire station tours, fire extinguisher training, and free helmets, stickers and coloring books for children.
