Bocce tournament will benefit charities

The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley’s sixth annual bocce tournament will be Monday at Cassese’s MVR restaurant, 410 N. Walnut St. The newly named Carmstrong Bocce for Hope tournament will take place in conjunction with the 2014 Youngstown State University homecoming festivities.

Proceeds support the Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, which benefits chronically/terminally ill children, and the Carmstrong Foundation, which supports the YSU scholarship fund and pancreatic cancer research. This fund is in memory of the late Carmine Cassese, who owned the MVR.

The winning team receives four tickets to the Dec. 14 Browns-Bengals football game. To register, go to hopemv.org.

The event will start at 5 p.m. Admission is free, but a $2 donation is requested. Local community leaders and celebrities will tend bar with all tips going toward the causes. Bartenders include Len Rome and Jim Loboy of WYTV, Jim Cossler of the Youngstown Business Incubator, Lori Shandor of Park Vista Retirement Community and Danny Catullo of Catullo Prime Meats.
