Talent scout to give free presentation
YOUNGSTOWN
Talent scout Peter Sklar will present “Getting Started in the Arts,” a free lecture for aspiring teen dancers, singers and actors, and their parents, on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ruth’s Dance & Fitness Co., 5626 South Ave. Sklar will explain why his views are in synch with the needs of top New York and Hollywood agents and casting directors.
“Getting Started in the Arts” is open to teenagers, young adults, older children and parents. There is no charge for admission, but reservations are strictly required. Call 330-782-6785. ‘Star Wars’ event at Poland Library
POLAND
Poland Library, on U.S. Route 224, will join more than 2,000 libraries and bookstores across North America in celebrating “Star Wars” and reading from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The event will include crafts, games, food and prizes, and a “talk like Yoda” contest. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader characters will be on hand. Children who come in costume will vie for prizes.
Livingston Taylor to give concerts
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
Livingston Taylor will present two performances — 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. — Oct. 19 at Slippery Rock University’s Union building. Singer-songwriter Chelsea Berry will join the performances.
Taylor is working on a recording of original songs, due out this fall, as well as a collection of Broadway favorites titled “Songs for the End of the Day.” Tickets will be sold at tables of eight with a menu of sandwiches, salads and snacks.
