Officials ID 17-year-old Pa. boy shot leaving home for school
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Public Schools have identified a 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot as he was leaving home with his mother to go to school.
The district says the boy is Eric Young, a senior at Pittsburgh Millione 6-12.
The shooting was reported about 7:15 a.m. today in the city’s Hill District
Homicide detectives were investigating this afternoon. The boy was reportedly shot three times.
Police haven’t said whether they have any suspects.
The district says Young was new to the school this year and was described by staff as a student "who was popular with his peers and always had a smile on his face.”
The school was dismissed for the day and planned to have its Student Assistance Support team and counselors on hand when classes resume Thursday.
