Mahoning health board gets five-year accreditation

AUSTINTOWN

The Mahoning County District Board of Health has achieved national five-year accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board, county health officials announced this morning.

The local public health agency is one of 54 health departments nationally and five in Ohio that have received this recognition.

“We are happy to be one of the first health departments in the state and in the nation to achieve national standards that foster effectiveness and promote excellence in public health,” said Patricia Sweeney, county health commissioner.

The Alexandria, Va.-based, non-profit accrediting board is funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
