The Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership’s Sebring office at 305 N. 15th St. is closed and will open in November.
MYCAP continues to provide assistance with Home Energy Services needs to Mahoning County residents. Customers may schedule appointments for Percentage of Income Payment Plus, Home Energy Assistance Program, Home Weatherization, and Electric Partnership Program.
Customers must have proper documentation and must have an appointment to be assisted. Mahoning County residents may call the automated scheduling line at 866-223-1125. Western Mahoning County residents may call the Sebring office at 330-938-6166 when it reopens.
Police probe theft at construction site

Township police are investigating a case in which more than $2,500 worth of tools were stolen from a Best Western construction site at 7400 Tiffany South.
According to a police report filed Saturday, three victims reported that numerous tools were stolen from inside the hotel, which is under construction.
Stolen items include saws, drills, extension cords, a radio, screw guns, routers and other miscellaneous tools.
The victims estimated the cost of the missing items to be $2,600, but said other items belonging to other victims had yet to be reported.
An officer handled another theft report Friday from a contractor at the same job site, the report said.
Milk cartons with gas found at site of fire

Fire reports say someone tried but failed to burn down a vacant 2132 McCartney Road home on the East Side late Sunday evening.
Crews were called to the home about 10:35 p.m. and found a small fire on the front porch. Reports said every room in the house had a milk container with gasoline in it. There were a total of seven containers, reports said. Damage is listed at $1,000.
Fire ruled arson
YOUNGSTOWN
Fire reports say the cause of a blaze that burned down a 38 S. Bruce St. home on the East Side early Sunday was an arson.
Crews were called to the home about 1:40 a.m. after a police officer passing by noticed the house engulfed in flames. Reports said firefighters allowed the house to burn down and protected neighboring homes.
Reports said neighbors told police the home recently was vacated. Damage is listed at $5,370.
Man faces charge of domestic violence

Township police arrested Marc Hamilton, 38, on a domestic-violence charge.
According to the report, police were sent to a residence on Trenholm Road on Friday night in reference to a fight between a father and son.
Officers spoke with Hamilton’s father, who said Hamilton punched him in the nose after an argument. The father said Hamilton was drunk at the time.
When officers spoke with Hamilton, he denied the fight had occurred. Officers noted, however, he was under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs, and that he had blood on his hand.
Hamilton was taken to the Mahoning County jail. He is set to appear in court today.
Three arrested
CAMPBELL
City police responded to a call of vicious dogs on Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority property off Jean Street about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when an officer noticed three people pushing a refrigerator out of the YMHA property.
Police arrested the three on charges of theft and complicity to theft. They are Roxanne Jones, 33, and Jarell Lamonte Heard, 28, both of Campbell, and Malcolm Myers, 24, of Youngstown. All three have court dates set for 9 a.m. today in municipal court.
Two have court dates on drug charges

City police arrested Tammy Cook, 41, of Campbell and Raelene Diamantes, 45, of Brookfield at 11:30 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence and driving with open containers.
Police conducted a traffic stop on McCartney Road when they saw open containers in Cook’s vehicle. Police searched both the driver and the passenger and found a bag that contained suspected crack cocaine. Both women have court dates set for 9 a.m. today in municipal court.

Meeting on proposals

On Oct. 15 starting at 1:30 p.m., the city of Youngstown will host a meeting in the Covelli Centre’s Community Conference Room, 229 E. Front St., to discuss the Wayfinding proposals from three experienced vendors that have submitted proposals for service to the city.
Each company will make a half-hour presentation followed by questions.
Wayfinding is an urban-planning approach to developing a cohesive signing and development strategy for downtown areas.

ODOT tree-trimming is rescheduled
SALINEVILLE
The Ohio Department of Transportation announced the state Route 164 tree-trimming operation in Columbiana County has been rescheduled for later this month.
Crews will complete work on state Route 39 east of Saline-ville this week and begin work on state Route 164 on Oct. 20.
One lane of traffic on state Route 164 will be maintained with flaggers. Motorists are urged to plan ahead to avoid delays that could last up to 15 minutes, ODOT officials said.
Crews will work between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and expect to complete the job within two weeks.
Scam reported

The owner of Bruno’s restaurant, 1984 Boardman-Poland Road, reported Saturday that someone called his business and claimed that the electric was going to be shut off if the bill was not paid.
The owner recognized that it was a scam because of reports of other businesses falling victim to the same scam, the report said.
Barry Dyngle’s Pub, 1801 S. Raccoon Road in Austintown, and Antone’s, 700 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, were victims of the scam last week.
Antone’s lost $1,008 and Barry Dyngle’s, $988.
Callers asked the victims to purchase MoneyPak Green Dot prepaid debit cards to pay their electric bills, something which electric companies warn they would not ask for from a customer.
Woman is victim of phone scam
BOARDMAN
A Boardman woman is out more than $2,000 after falling victim to a phone scam, according to a police report filed Sunday.
According to the report, a resident of Palo Verde Drive said she got a phone call from a man claiming to work for a company that could provide her with a $3,000 loan if she purchased $775 worth of prepaid debit cards and gave him the serial numbers.
After the victim did so, she got another call from a man who told her she had been the victim of a scam and claimed to be an actual employee of the loan company. He said he would process the loan if she sent him money through Western Union.
The victim sent the man $1,300 through four transactions to two different names.
Man shot in the leg
YOUNGSTOWN
A man told police he was shot in the leg about 2:50 a.m. Sunday as he was sitting in the living room of his South Side home.
Reports said Kenneth Darryl Woods Jr., 26, told police he was sitting on the couch at his home in the 700 block of Detroit Avenue when he heard several shots from outside and realized he was hit. Police found him in the kitchen, reports said.
Police found a spent 9 mm shell casing in the roadway in front of the home and two spent 9 mm rounds, reports said, including one in the couch where Woods was sitting.
About 5:10 p.m., police were called back to the street by a neighbor, who found a bullet hole in his house. Woods was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center to be treated for his injuries.
Wheel-chair-bound man rescued from fire
YOUNGSTOWN
Firefighters carried a 65-year-old man in a wheelchair out of a burning East Side home early Monday morning.
According to reports, crews were called to a Charlotte Avenue home about 2 a.m. where a man said he was asleep and woke up to a fire. He met firefighters on the front porch and said his 65-year-old uncle was inside and could not get out the front door. Firefighters went inside and carried him out, reports said.
Reports said the fire appeared to have started in a first-floor dining room where a space heater was located. No one was injured. The house was declared a loss.
Prostitution arrests
LIBERTY
Police arrested 11 women and two men in a prostitution sting in Belmont Avenue hotels.
Liberty Township Police Chief Rich Tisone said his department along with several other agencies conducted an Internet sting last week.
A 16-month-old child was taken at one scene by children services, he said.
Those charged will appear in Girard Municipal Court this morning.
The FBI, Trumbull-Ashtabula-Geauga Drug Task Force, Hubbard city police, Youngstown Police and the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force participated in the sting.
Officer dragged during traffic stop

A police officer was dragged about a quarter-mile when a driver took off during a traffic stop, Campbell police reported Monday.
Patrol officer Joseph Patton was partly in the window of the driver’s side when Derek C. Culver, 41, of Youngstown drove away, police said. Patton was not seriously injured.
The traffic stop began at 4:20 p.m. at Poland Avenue and Fithian Street and ended at Poland and Union Street, police said. Other officers were able to stop the car.
Culver was initially stopped for a turn-signal violation.
He was taken to the Mahoning County Jail on charges of felonious assault; resisting arrest; failure to comply with the order of a police officer; obstructing official business; carrying a concealed weapon; and fleeing and eluding.
