Pumpkin carve-out at Boardman Park

BOARDMAN

Boardman Park’s annual pumpkin carve-out Contest will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Participants should bring carving tools and old newspapers. There is a small fee for pumpkins. Prizes will be awarded for the best jack-o-lanterns in several age categories.

A new and free event, Boo Thru the Woods, will be Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. Children will receive treats from area businesses while on a walk through the park’s trail. It begins near the Hofmaster Pavilion.

The annual family-friendly haunted wagon rides also will start this weekend, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are $5 ($3 for children 12 and under), with a family rate of $15 ($12 for Boardman residents) for groups consisting of two adults and up to four children.

A bonfire, bounce- around, Jocko the Clown and food vendors will be on site during wagon rides.

Christmas in Woods set for 2 weekends

The 20th annual Old-Fashioned Christmas in the Woods at Shaker Woods, 44337 County Line Road (just off Route 7), will be Oct. 11-12 and 18-19. Admission is $8 (free for children 12 and younger). Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Go to christmasohio.com.

The festival will host more than 200 high-quality craftspeople and artisans. In a manicured wooded setting, juried costumed crafters will have their booths decorated in an old-fashioned holiday theme. The exhibitors will demonstrate their crafts and sell handmade holiday items and traditional crafts. The level grounds feature gravel footpaths and free parking. Food vendors wil be on the site.

B.E. Taylor will perform all four days, as will Vanessa Campagna. Other performers will include the Beaver Creek Band on Oct. 11 and 12; the Cedar Valley Cloggers and the Krista Solars Band, Oct. 18; and the Ambridge Area High School Steel Drum Band, Oct. 19.
