Early voting begins today at boards of elections
YOUNGSTOWN — Members of the Youngstown State University Chapter of the Young Democrats and people going on vacation were among those taking advantage of early in-person voting today — the first day to cast such ballots.
YSU Young Democrats members camped out overnight to be the first to vote.
“It’s important for people to vote early as they can get caught up with their schedules and not have time” to vote on Election Day, Nov. 4, said Jordan Wolfe, a YSU junior from Youngstown and Young Democrat member.
Walt Flickinger Jr. of Struthers said he’s going on vacation shortly and wanted to vote before leaving.
Also, the Mahoning County Democratic Party had a press conference this morning urging people to vote early.
Chairman David Betras criticized Republicans for appealing lower federal court decisions that would have started early voting a week ago. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled last week that the lower courts overstepped their authority.
“You can tell how effective a political strategy is by how hard your opponents try to derail it,” Betras said.
