Firefighters get man out of East Side home that caught fire


YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighters carried a 65-year-old man in a wheelchair out of a burning East Side home early this morning.

According to reports, crews were called to a Charlotte Avenue home about 2 a.m. where a man said he was asleep and woke up to a fire. He met firefighters on the front porch and said his 65-year-old uncle was inside and could not get out the front door.

Firefighters went inside and carried him out, reports said.

Reports said the fire appeared to have started in a first-floor dining room where a space heater was located. No one was injured. The house was declared a loss. The family is staying with relatives across the street, reports said.
