October Winds concert set Oct. 13
YOUNGSTOWN
More than 100 woodwind, brass, piano, harp, string bass and percussion students in the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University will play in October Winds, the opening concert of the 2014-15 season of YSU Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 in Stambauh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.
Conductors are Brandt Payne and Stephen L. Gage. Concert Band selections include Gustav Holst’s classic “Moorside March” and Frank Ticheli’s “Vesuvius.” The YSU Wind Ensemble will perform John Paynter’s arrangement of Malcolm Arnold’s “Four Scottish Dances.” “October” will feature soloists Rachael Swanson, oboe, of Greenville, Pa., and Richard Dickenson, euphonium, of Austintown.
