5th OVI offenses
LISBON
The Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested two men just after midnight Saturday and charged both with operating under the influence. Troopers said it was the fifth OVI offense for both men. Justin Smith, 41, of Salem crashed his vehicle into a utility pole on state Route 9 near Tower Road in Butler Township. He is to appear at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Columbiana County Municipal Court. Robert Armstrong, 34, of Goshen was arrested in St. Clair Township and is to appear in East Liverpool Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Monday.
Pond clinic, dinner
CANFIELD
Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District will have a pond clinic in combination with the annual Election Dinner at 5 p.m. Oct. 16 at Greier Ag Center Inc., 9585 Columbiana-Canfield Road. Stephen Prebonick, ONDR conservation soil scientist, will discuss the importance of soil testing when designing and constructing. Steve Fender of Fender’s Fish Hatchery will address stocking fish, managing vegetation and nuisance wildlife. The district’s Haybuster 77C no-till drill, which is now for rent, will be on display. Prebonick will be available to discuss soil-health benefits, and district technician Todd Miller will answer questions regarding its rental and use.
The clinic is open to the public, but anyone wishing to vote must be a county resident and at least age 18. Absentee ballots can be obtained by visiting or calling the district office at 330-740-7995 . Reservations must be made by Friday.
Business breakfast
COLUMBIANA
The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will host a business breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 31 at Dutch Haus Restaurant, 14895 South Ave. Larry Kosiba, executive director of the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center, will present the SeedBase Project, an interactive, Web-based economic- development tool designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the city’s assets, including water, sewer and electrical services available. Traffic counts for major routes through Columbiana and links to commercial and industrial sites for sale will be available. Cost is $10 for chamber members, $15 for nonmembers. Barbecue benefit
WARREN
Basement Outreach Ministries, a nonprofit organization providing spiritual and physical help to low-income Warren residents, will have a barbecue dinner fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at its meal site, 155 Tod Ave. NW, across from the Hot Dog Shoppe.
The dinner will include two pieces of barbecued chicken, a side and dessert for $10.
