CLEVELAND

Cuyahoga County has announced the opening of an expanded regional forensic-science lab that will enhance the lab’s ability to test evidence for local law-enforcement agencies.

The facility for a number of years served as the crime lab for the Cleveland police department and other law-enforcement agencies in the county.

Some of the improvements include new DNA robotics that will allow for more-efficient testing of what often is crucial evidence

There also will be the addition of latent fingerprint and ballistics testing and a courier service by the county sheriff’s department to shuttle evidence from local police departments.

The county paid for the $2.5 million expansion using settlement funds from the conviction of a former stock broker who scammed investors out of millions of dollars.
