Elections boards will be open until 9 p.m. Monday for last-minute voter registrations
YOUNGSTOWN
Boards of elections throughout Ohio will remain open Monday until 9 p.m. to handle last-minute voter registrations.
Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election.
Mahoning and Columbiana counties’ boards open at 8 a.m. Monday, while Trumbull County’s opens at 8:30 a.m.
To register in person, you need to include either your driver’s license number or the last four digits of your Social Security number on the written application.
The Mahoning County Board of Elections is in Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave. in Youngstown.
Trumbull’s board is at 2947 Youngstown Road SE in Warren, and Columbiana County’s board office is at 7989 Dickey Drive in Lisbon.
Early in-person voting starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the boards’ offices. Boards of elections also can accept absentee votes by mail starting Tuesday.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday, in a 5-4 decision, that lower federal courts had overstepped their authority by adding a week of in-person early voting — that would have allowed voters to cast ballots starting this past Tuesday — and additional Sundays.
Those wanting to vote early in person at boards of elections can do so between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday as well as Oct. 14-17, 20-24 and 27-31.
Members of the Youngstown State University Chapter of the Young Democrats will have a “Sleep Out the Vote” event starting at 6 p.m. Monday, outside the Mahoning County Board of Elections so they can be the first to vote Tuesday.
“We’re going to sleep out in front of the BOE so we can cast the first votes to bring positive change to our community, state and nation,” said Ernest Barkett, YSU Young Dems president.
Also, early in-person voting can be done between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, both of which are Saturdays, as well as between 1 and 5 p.m. Nov. 2, the Sunday before the election, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3, the day before the election.
The polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4.
