Canfield’s Cianciola, Kaleel keep rolling

The top-seeded Canfield doubles duo of Hannah Cianciola and Ashley Kaleel still have yet to drop a game in the Division I girls tennis sectional in Canton. They defeated Lake 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday to advance to next week’s district tournament. They’ll play for the sectional title Saturday against Hoover’s Kaitlin Kaye and Makayla Sutter, but the top four teams all advance to districts. Gretchen Groves and Sarah Robbins of Louisville and Alivia Arnold and Lynn Daugherty of Hoover also advanced. In singles, Tessa Hill of Jackson, Danielle Beyes of Green, Katherine McCauley of Lake and Emily Thomas of Jackson all advanced to the district tournament.

Heartland Christian 6, Leetonia 0

COLUMBIANA

Seth Ogden had two goals, Titus Joachim had a goal and an assist and Nathan Sommers had a goal and an assist for Heatland Christian (5-4-2). Mitch Baker had five saves for Leetonia.

Javier Troncoso had three goals, Nico Bednarik had two goals and Chivan Martinez had three assists for Campbell (6-4). Vincent Noce scored for Berkshire.

Gianni Quattro scored twice, John Hintz had a goal and an assist and Trey Roller had five saves for Ursuline. Keenan Gilbert scored and Tristan Schillan had seven saves for St. Thomas Aquinas.

Andrew Gable scored twice, Brian Fryda had an assist and Kevin Durkin had seven saves for Boardman (8-6). Dmitry Callow had eight saves for Warren Harding.

BEAVER TOWNSHIP

South Range keeper Brant Rothbauer had six saves, while Salem’s Cody Ewing stopped 15 shots in matching shutout efforts.

Hubbard 1, LaBrae 0

HUBBARD

Nick Battaglia scored the game’s only goal for Hubbard in a victory over LaBrae. Josh Adams was credited with the assist on Battaglia’s goal. Jacob Shaffer stopped four shots to earn the shutout. Austin Jones made 15 saves in net for the Vikings.

NILES

Emily DeGeorge had 18 kills, six aces and seven digs as Jefferson cruised to victory over Niles. Molly Barber had 45 assists and Hayley Allen chipped in with nine kills and seven digs for the Falcons (19-0). Emma Dellinger had five digs and three kills and Katie Julian added seven assists for the Red Dragons (4-15). JV: Jefferson 2-1.

Girard 25-25-25, Howland 17-18-16

GIRARD

Brooke Bada had 12 kills, eight points and eight digs in Girard’s win over Howland. Lexi Crown added 17 assists and two blocks, while Taylor Bell had nine kills and eight digs for the Indians (5-13, 1-8 AAC Red). Christian Carr had seven digs and six kills and Lexi Miner added eight assists to lead the Tigers (8-11, 0-6 AAC Red). JV: Girard, 2-1.

Brooke Harper had 14 digs, Lauren Harrold had eight kills and Abbie Gallagher added 12 kills for Crestview. MacKenzie Firth had two kills, Mariah Eisenbraun had seven kills and Logan Daggy had six kills for United.

NEWTON FALLS

Sadie Sutton had 14 points and 14 digs in Newton Falls’ sweep of LaBrae. Kate Wainwright registered 27 assists and 10 digs, while Olivia Hedge added 17 points and seven digs for the Tigers (16-4). The Vikings (7-10) were led by Miranda Dodrill’s 11 kills and Haylie Kiser’s 28 digs. JV: Newton Falls, 2-0.

Arlia Duarte had 22 kills, Jen Eich had 31 assists and Cordray Sundstorm had three aces for Poland. Shymara Dykes had 18 kills, Kristin Sampson had 32 assists and Kaitlyn Annandon had 20 digs for Warren Harding.

Grace Sotlar recorded 15 kills, 15 points and eight aces in Lowellville’s win over Sebring. Hannah Kulewsky added 14 digs and eight points, while Alyssa Anderson had eight kills and five blocks for the Rockets (4-13). Murphy Flowers led the Trojans with 25 digs, 15 assists and two aces.
