Canfield’s Cianciola, Kaleel keep rolling
The top-seeded Canfield doubles duo of Hannah Cianciola and Ashley Kaleel still have yet to drop a game in the Division I girls tennis sectional in Canton. They defeated Lake 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday to advance to next week’s district tournament. They’ll play for the sectional title Saturday against Hoover’s Kaitlin Kaye and Makayla Sutter, but the top four teams all advance to districts. Gretchen Groves and Sarah Robbins of Louisville and Alivia Arnold and Lynn Daugherty of Hoover also advanced. In singles, Tessa Hill of Jackson, Danielle Beyes of Green, Katherine McCauley of Lake and Emily Thomas of Jackson all advanced to the district tournament.

Seth Ogden had two goals, Titus Joachim had a goal and an assist and Nathan Sommers had a goal and an assist for Heatland Christian (5-4-2). Mitch Baker had five saves for Leetonia.

South Range keeper Brant Rothbauer had six saves, while Salem’s Cody Ewing stopped 15 shots in matching shutout efforts.

HUBBARD
Nick Battaglia scored the game’s only goal for Hubbard in a victory over LaBrae. Josh Adams was credited with the assist on Battaglia’s goal. Jacob Shaffer stopped four shots to earn the shutout. Austin Jones made 15 saves in net for the Vikings.

Molly Barber had 45 assists and Hayley Allen chipped in with nine kills and seven digs for the Falcons (19-0). GIRARD
Brooke Bada had 12 kills, eight points and eight digs in Girard’s win over Howland. Lexi Crown added 17 assists and two blocks, while Taylor Bell had nine kills and eight digs for the Indians (5-13, 1-8 AAC Red). Christian Carr had seven digs and six kills and Lexi Miner added eight assists to lead the Tigers (8-11, 0-6 AAC Red). JV: Girard, 2-1.
