CHAMPION
An event from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 16 will allow business leaders to meet Bob Lidle, new coordinator of the Trumbull Career and Technical Center Adult Training Center.
It is for those businesses in need of workers in areas such as welding, maintenance, machinist or other fields. Those attending are asked to RSVP by calling 330-847-0503, ext. 1602.
Life Chain event
WARREN
The Warren area will participate in the 24th annual Life Chain, an anti-abortion event, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday along the sidewalks on Elm Road Northeast from the Warren Plaza to Warren G. Harding High School. It is 60 minutes of silent prayer.
Fire Safety Day

The National Fire Protection Association will celebrate Fire Prevention Week 2014 from Sunday through Oct. 11. This year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month.”
The Boardman Fire Department will commemorate Fire Prevention Week with a Fire Safety Day event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11 at 136 Boardman-Poland Road. Refreshments will be provided.
The event will include tours of the fire station, a live burn demonstration, extrication demonstration and fire-extinguisher training. There will be a “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” T-shirt fundraiser taking place during the event. Children and families will be invited to learn fire-safety tips, and there will be free helmets, stickers and coloring books available.
Man shot in arm
WARREN
For the third night in a row, a young city man has been injured by gunfire.
A 20-year-old First Street Southwest man was shot in the arm Wednesday night in Fastlane Food Store, 2650 W. Market St., near Southern Boulevard.
When police arrived at 10:08 p.m., they found the man standing by the front door with a towel over his upper arm. He was coherent and taken to a hospital for treatment. The suspect fled the store before police arrived.
Other gun-related incidents occurred Monday night and Tuesday night, one of which involved a man shot in the leg on Parkman Road Northwest, the other involving a gunfight between two men on Logan Avenue Northeast that led to a laceration of one of the men from broken glass.
Foundation banquet
POLAND
The Poland Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence will honor three graduates of Poland Seminary High School at its annual banquet at 6 p.m. Oct. 14.
Sue Van Meter, chairwoman of the English Department at PSHS, will be recognized as outstanding educator.
Anthony Sferra and James Stewart, both assistant chiefs of the Western Reserve Joint Fire District, will be recognized as outstanding alumni.
Tickets to the banquet, at The Lake Club, are $50 and can be purchased from the foundation secretary, Holly Fender, at 330-757-0783 or Ted Roberts, president of the foundation, at 330-744-5211.
The foundation is a booster club that supports Poland teachers and students.
