Lecture series continues
The Butler Institute of American Art, located on Wick Avenue in Youngstown, is the first museum dedicated exclusively to American art. The museum was established by industrialist and philanthropist Joseph G. Butler, Jr.. Dedicated in 1919, the original structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The history of this local gem will be the highlight of a lecture given by Cynthia Perantoni Anderson on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., at the Canfield Historical Society Bond House. Anderson, a former English and French teacher at Canfield High School, has been a docent at the Butler Institute of American Art since 2008. She volunteers her time with the museum school programs, public tours and serves as the Chair of the American Holiday Preview Party.
The Bond House is located at 44 West Main Street in Canfield, across from the Canfield library. This lecture is free, appropriate for all ages and is open to anyone who would like to attend. No reservations are needed. A question and answer period and a short social time with refreshments are also provided after the lecture.
The next lecture in the series will take place on Nov. 13 when Laura Zeh, Curator of the Canfield Historical Society, will present “Select Pieces from the CHS Collection.” For more information on any of the lectures, call the Canfield Historical Society at 330-533-3458.
