On Aug. 28, the Austintown library hosted the monthly meeting of its Library Cookbook Club, giving area foodies a chance to gather and learn more about food and cooking.

“[Austintown and Tri Lakes library supervisor] Linda [Kucalaba] and I were talking one day about doing a book club and we just thought, ‘cookbooks,’ because that’s what I’m interested in,” Austintown library adult services librarian Lindsay Platt said of the club’s beginnings.

The club has been meeting since April but has had a rough go of it, with only one person attending since the club began.

“It’s in the development stages,” Kucalaba said.

Platt said the club has several different purposes.

“We’re hoping to swap recipes and talk about different cookbooks,” she said. “I read all of the new cookbooks. I go through them, I do some of the recipes. But I haven’t really had anyone to talk about them.”

Platt said the club was originally only a part of the Austintown library, but has since been combined with Boardman.

“Maybe we can work together with them,” she said.

Platt said anyone who attends the meetings can get to meet new people and perhaps even try out new foods.

“Being able to socialize and learn new recipes,” she said. “If we get enough people, we are allowed to bring in different dishes for people to share and try. They do have to sign a waiver, but we are allowed to do that.”

The club has a Facebook page, which can be found at www.facebook.com/librarycookbookclub.
