'Tigers Be Still' comedy entails real-life issues

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Playhouse will open its Griffith-Adler Series on Friday with the comedy “Tigers Be Still.”

This new play by Kim Rosenstock (Fox’s “New Girl”) will be directed by Christopher Fidram and will be presented in the theater’s Moyer Room this weekend and next.

The Griffith-Adler Series showcases non-mainstream fare in an intimate setting.

“Tigers Be Still” is a broad 90-minute comedy that tackles real issues such as grief and loss. It offers a funny look at the way we pull ourselves together and bounce back after life-changing events.

“Tigers” tells the story of Sherry Wickman, a determined young woman who refuses to let her recently obtained master’s degree in art therapy go to waste.

After sending out countless resumes, an unexpected employment opportunity brings Sherry a renewed sense of purpose and hope. Now if only her mother would come downstairs, her jilted sister would stop watching “Top Gun” and get off the couch, her first therapy patient would do at least one of his take-home assignments, her new boss would leave his rifle at home, and someone would catch the tiger that recently escaped from the local zoo — everything would be perfect!

The cast includes Donette Bishop, Jenna Cintavey, Jeremiah Kibler and Dave Wolford. Susi Thompson is the production stage manager.

Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Oct. 9 and 10 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday and Oct. 12. There will be no performance Oct. 11.
