MILTON TOWNSHIP
A Milton Township police officer was injured after a car struck him while he was standing outside his cruiser during a traffic stop at 8:15 p.m. on Newton Falls Road north of Mahoning Avenue, according to Vindicator news partner 21 WFMJ-TV. A dispatcher with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the officer is in stable condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police were looking for the vehicle that struck him, because it fled the scene.
Tailgate party planned
BOARDMAN
The West Boulevard Elementary School PTA will host a tailgate party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in the West Boulevard Elementary School gym and outdoors. The tailgate party is for Boardman’s Homecoming game against Perry High School. The tailgate will feature face painting, games, a DJ, a 50/50 drawing and a basket raffle. Food and drinks will be available. All proceeds will support Boardman Schools student activities.
Firehouse open house
POLAND
The Poland Fire Department will have a free open house at Station 91, 111 S. Main St., from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided as well as an opportunity to meet firefighters and Blaze, the department mascot. There also will be an extinguish-a-fire activity and fire demonstration for adults.
Taking oath as judge
YOUNGSTOWN
Atty. Shirley J. Christian will take the oath of office as a Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge in a public ceremony at noon today in the county courthouse rotunda. The oath will be administered by Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of the county’s Common Pleas Court. Gov. John Kasich appointed Christian, of New Springfield, to complete the remaining two years of the term of Judge James C. Evans, who retired Wednesday.
