Liberty fire levy up for renewal

Staff report

LIBERTY

Liberty Township’s taxpayers will be asked to vote on a 1.5-mill renewal levy for fire services in the Nov. 4 election.

The levy generates $314,494 annually, according to township fiscal officer Steve Shelton.

It costs the owner of a $100,000 home $52.50 annually, according to the Trumbull County Auditor’s office.

Shelton said the fire department’s annual budget is $2 million a year.

The department has 14 full-time firefighters and two fire stations. It also uses part-time firefighters.

“It’s for operating the fire department, for payroll, hospitalization, retirement, that’s probably about 90 percent of it,” said township Administrator Pat Ungaro.

“But it can be used for anything that’s relevant to the fire department,” he said.
