Christopher wins to earn district tennis berth

Ursuline’s Allison Christopher advanced to the Division II district tournament during sectional play at Boardman High School on Wednesday.
Christopher defeated Lakeview’s Anna Gavin 6-7, 6-4, 3-0. Gavin retired due to injury.
Gavin defeated the No. 4 seed Liberty’s Meryl Schor 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
There are three quarterfinal matches scheduled for today at Boardman High School.
The winners advance to the district tournament.
Today’s matches feature No.1 seed Elise Eckman (Poland) against Nikki Malkovits (Ursuline), No. 2 seed Gia Reider (Cardinal Mooney) facing Hailey Toporcer and No. 3 seed Kara Thompson (Struthers) against Autumn Kirila (Brookfield).
In doubles action at Struthers High School, No. 1 seed Hallie Yerian and Lizzie Mathews (Mooney), No. 2 seed Lauren Paczak and Carlie Stein (Lakeview) and No. 3 seed Marissa Ricciardi and Audrey Schweers (Poland) all advanced to the district tournament in Canton.
Maria Stroup and Ellie Cole (Warren JFK) upset fourth-seeded Cara Palusak and Lauren Pepperney (Poland) 6-0, 6-3 to qualify for the district tournament.
The double teams will play Saturday at Boardman High School to determine seeding for the district tournament.
The Division II tournament will be held at Harvard Park in Canton.
All district tournaments start next week.
