Motorcyclist dies after Youngstown crash

A motorcyclist died following a 1 p.m. today crash with a car at the intersection of Elva Avenue and Market Street at the edge of Youngstown.

Police have confirmed that the motorcyclist died after being transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. A police spokesman did not release his name. The driver of the sport utility vehicle involved told authorities she would go to the hospital on her own.

Youngstown Detective Sgt. David Lomax said preliminary reports said the motorcyclist was weaving “in and out of traffic traveling at a high rate of speed.” Lanes of Market Street, two northbound and one southbound, were closed for a time Wednesday afternoon as the crash was investigated. This was the second fatal motorcycle accident on Market Street in the past five days.

Lomax cautioned drivers to be aware of the current northbound lane closures on Market Street.
