Edison Financial Credit Union is moving its downtown offices to one central location in Austintown, CEO David Beckhorn said Wednesday.
The move is happening this weekend, he said.
“We have been studying where we should be located,” Beckhorn said. “We studied to find out what would be best for our membership so we determined that Austintown”is that location.
Edison Financial Credit Union is a locally owned, state-chartered credit union established in 1940 in Youngstown. The location in downtown was built in 1976. Today, the credit union has approximately 6,000 members.
With the move will come some layoffs, Beckhorn said, but he would not say how many.
“I think it is just a general adjustment to the general economic climate,” Beckhorn said. “We have been looking at this for many years and this has gone on for many years and this is the only solution.”
The downtown location was sold to an unnamed retail operator for an undisclosed price.
Members should go to the Austintown branch at 6000 Mahoning Avenue in Austintown for their banking needs. The location is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. This location now has an outside ATM.
