Athena will host second Connections event

Staff report

SHARON, Pa.

Because of the success of the inaugural ATHENA Connections event in April, Lawrence Mercer County ATHENA International will host a second ATHENA Connections event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at the campus of Penn State Shenango.

The purpose of ATHENA Connections is to develop the next generation of female leaders by providing this one-day interactive leadership curriculum for select students from area colleges.

The curriculum is based on the ATHENA Leadership Model, eight principles of leadership that are reflective of women’s contributions to leadership. The principles serve as building blocks for future success.

Twelve women will be selected to participate in the training and earn a certificate in leadership. The course is tailored for college juniors or seniors or students who are graduating from a two-year college curriculum who are learning about leadership or practicing it through campus involvement.

Successful candidates must be attending a university or college in Mercer or Lawrence counties and have been nominated by a faculty member, colleague or staff member at the nominee’s school.

Nominations may be submitted to Lisa Reeves Bertin at lrb19@psu.edu or call 724-983-2908. Nominators should submit the nomination form along with a letter of recommendation. Find nomination forms at www.lawrencemercerathena.com. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 15.
