SENIOR SIDELIGHTS

AARP Foundation Tax volunteers are needed for sites in Trumbull and Mahoning counties. Positions available for the 2014 tax filing season include greeter, client facilitators and tax counselors. Volunteer tax-aide technical coordinators also are needed to set up and maintain computers, networks and printers, as well as local coordinators to organize and oversee individual tax sites, among other leadership positions. Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield, will host a Gathering Place Senior Day Event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 8. There will be an Americana salsa and ballroom dancing demo, holiday workshop, games and a lunch for an optional donation. The church is handicap accessible. Gathering Place events are free community outreach social programs offered to all senior citizens on the second Monday of each month.

Springfield Local High School, 11335 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, New Middletown, will host a holiday breakfast for senior citizens at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 18 in the cafeteria. Seniors age 60 or older are invited to the event, which will include holiday music from the Springfield Concert Choir and Jazz Band. Festive place mats from Springfield Elementary students will serve as place settings. For reservations, call the board office by noon Dec. 16 at 330-542-2929 ext. 100.
