YOUNGSTOWN

A man was arraigned Friday in a robbery at a West Side Dairy Queen earlier this week.

Eric Doran, 29, Pleasant Valley Drive, Canfield, is accused of not only taking money from the cash register, but stealing money from a tip jar before that and using that money to pay for a meal.

Doran was arraigned on a charge of robbery before Judge Elizabeth Kobly, who set his bond at $50,000.

Doran is accused of going to the Dairy Queen at 3555 S. Meridian Road about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, ordering a meal and striking up a conversation with an employee, reports said.

When he was finished with his meal, reports said he forced his way behind the counter, pushed the employee away from the cash register, took the money out of the register and ran to a car in the parking lot, which then drove away.

Reports said when officers arrived and watched surveillance video in the restaurant, they saw Doran take money from the tip jar, which he then used to pay for the meal he ate before going behind the counter.

Doran also has warrants for charges of theft, breaking and entering and possessing drug-abuse instruments, according to jail records. He was taken into custody Wednesday, according to jail records.

A police report did not state how much money was taken from the cash register.
