God cares about the welfare of creations
In Luke 12:6-7 Jesus says, “Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. Indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear, you are more valuable than many sparrows.”
This Scripture speaks of the tender care and assurance of the Lord toward us.
This promise is sure, even if at times in life it doesn’t look or feel that way.
We are never forgotten in the heart of the Lord.
A few thoughts are represented in this Scripture.
Jesus uses a common bird to illustrate a practical example. He quickly transitions to assuring us of the care provided for us by the Father.
His first mention is to remind us that we are not “forgotten before God.” The word forgotten means “to disregard, or neglect.”
We can picture Jesus watching the sparrows flying around, nesting and caring for their young. They may appear small and insignificant to others; however, they are not forgotten by Him.
As one of the old hymns reminds us, “His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches you and me!”
His purpose is to remind us that we are ever before the eyes of heaven and remembered by God no matter what we may think or believe.
Isaiah 41:10 says, “Do not fear; for I am with you.” He remembers us and calls us by name.
Another reminding thought is that Jesus said the very hairs of our head are numbered. That is amazing; although the number varies from person to person, the human head has about 100,000 strands of hair.
Further, on the average we can lose up to 100 strands a day.
The watchfulness and care of the Lord toward us is so precise that even the smallest of details are noticed and observed.
The Lord wants us to know He is intimately acquainted with all our ways, even the most minuscule.
In the midst of everyone else, He sees us. His love for us is sure. We are not “lost in a crowd” but rather known and remembered by Him.
And at the same time, we must take the time to “know” Him, and have a relationship with Him.
Jesus reminds us not to fear, for we are so valuable to the Lord.
The word valuable means “precious, priceless, important, costly, treasured and beloved.”
These are the endearing statements that describe the love of God for us. We are priceless and precious in His sight.
God loves us so much that He gave His only begotten son to pay the price for our sins. The price paid by Christ on Calvary was done once for all.
Sometimes value is measured by return, as in the stock market, wealth or recognition; even prestige, power and possessions.
God’s measurement of our value and worth is seen in the old rugged cross. It is seen in the accepting love and forgiveness of God, who was willing to give his all to a creation who would often value other things before him.
Yet, he chose us! No matter what life brings our way, “Do not fear” for He is with us, we are priceless!
He cares if we feel discouraged. He understands when we are overwhelmed. He knows that sometimes we just need to turn off the thoughts and give ourselves a break, emotionally, mentally and physically.
These things are important to Him because we are valuable in His sight. He cares for us with the tenderness of a mother’s heart and the protectiveness instilled in a lioness.
He will help us with the battles of life and impart the wisdom needed.
In I Peter 5:7, Scripture reads, “Cast all your care upon Him because He cares for you.” Let this Scripture be your strength today.
