Business incubator to host workshop

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Business Incubator, 241 W. Federal St., will host the Lean Canvas workshop at noon Tuesday.

The workshop will be presented by Ash Maurya, founder of Spark59, and will be providing a live remote webinar to a group of interested individuals gathered at YBI. Lean Canvas is a format for brainstorming and developing a business plan or model.

A light lunch will be provided. The price is $10 for registration. To register, go to YBI’s Facebook page.

Tourism bureau’s Member of the Year

Don Sutton, owner of Market Square in Kinsman, was presented with the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau’s first Member of the Year award at its annual meeting Nov. 18 at the Residence Inn, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road.

Sutton started the “Tour Route 7” program, which consists of 30 mom-and-pop businesses cooperating to promote the corridor on Route 7 between Hubbard and Conneaut. The program is to offer a scenic alternative to Route 11.

Drilling permits

COLUMBUS

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued eight drilling permits in the Utica Shale for the week ending Nov. 22.

There were no drilling permits issued in the Mahoning Valley. There are 1,638 drilling permits with 1,200 wells drilled and 698 producing. The Utica rig count is at 52.

Christmas-tree prices to increase

DES MOINES, Iowa

Christmas trees likely will cost a little more this year, and growers say it’s about time.

Six years of decreased demand and low prices put many growers out of business. Those who withstood the downturn are relieved they survived.
