Pittsburgh diocese warns against outside groups

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh’s Catholic diocese is warning parishioners against worshipping with groups it says aren’t affiliated with the church.

The Post-Gazette reports today the diocese is sending out notices saying people participating with the Society of St. Pius X or Roman Catholic Womenpriests will be seen as rejecting the church.

The Society of St. Pius X opposes church reforms, including the end of Latin languages masses, introduced by the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s. Roman Catholic Womenpriests supports allowing women to serve as priests.

Bishop David Zubik says the church considers involvement in the outside groups a “serious matter” but doesn’t plan on excommunicating people found to be participating.
