A southwest Ohio man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after he was found guilty of shooting at a police officer.

Twenty -year-old Anthony Wilkerson pleaded guilty Nov. 12 in Dayton Municipal Court to charges of felonious assault on a police officer and discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises.

Prosecutors say an officer was investigating reports of shots fired from an SUV in June when the vehicle re-emerged and the driver fired multiple shots at the officer. Prosecutors say they later identified Wilkerson as the driver of the SUV.

Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck said in a release that anyone who purposely fires shots at a police officer is a threat to the community.

A message was left for Wilkerson’s attorney.
